From the "Torrington Telegram", March 18, 1965:
JAMES M. PETTIT DIES; RITES SATURDAY
James Marion Pettit, 75, a resident of Torrington for the past 38 years died at Goshen County Memorial hospital Wednesday a.m., Mar. 17, where he had been a patient for three and one-half weeks.

He was born May 10, 1889 at Stanberry, Mo. He was married to Luvenia L. Mingles Nov. 23, 1910. They made their home in Chariton, Ia., before coming here in 1927.

Survivors include his wife Luvenia; three daughters, Mrs. Eva Stroud of South Gate, Calif., Mrs. Edna Bennett of Cheyenne and Mrs. Irene Morgan of Rapid City, S.D.; one son, S/Sgt. Richard H. Pettit of Ent Air Force Base of Colorado Springs, Colo., eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Four children preceded him in death, three in infancy and one daughter, Evelyn, in 1936.

Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist church Saturday, Mar. 20, at 2 p.m. Burial will be made in Valley View Cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the Chapel of the Chimes in Cheyenne until Saturday morning."
