Per his Draft Registration (No. 483) from Gentry County, dated Sept. 12, 1918(?), at age 34, his given name was William Troy and he was born 12-26-1884. He shows his nearest relative as "Estella Pettit".

Obituary
Troy Pettit, 75, a resident of Torrington for the past six years died Monday afternoon at 5:30 at his home of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Failing health and loneliness were thought to be responsible for his act. Mr. Pettit was born December 26, 1884 at Stanberry, Missouri, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Pettit. He was married at Vinton, Iowa, September 8, 1908 to Estella Goodwin, who proceeded him in death. He came to Torrington from Stanberry to make his home in 1954. Survivors include a brother, James, of Torrington and a sister, Mrs. Maudie Lyons of Cedar Rapids, Ia. Several nephews and nieces also survive. Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Colyer Chapel with Rev. Marion Morris in charge. Burial will be in Hall Cemetery at Stanberry, Missouri.
