Obituary
Brinton Elementary - Mesa Public Schools, Mesa, Arizona
Dilworth C. Brinton served on the Mesa Public Schools Governing Board from 1961 to 1965, including one year as president. He was an insurance agent. Nationally known, he was the first in Arizona to be both a Chartered Life Underwriter and a member of the Million Dollar Roundtable. One of Mr. Brinton's most lasting accomplishments was his service as chairman of Mesa's 14-member Board of Freeholders, the group of community leaders elected in 1967 to write the city charter.

Community service was a lifelong commitment, and the list of organizations to which he contributed time is long. Mr. Brinton was chosen as Mesa's Outstanding Citizen in 1954. He was a founding member of the Ho Ho Kams, a civic group that brought the Chicago Cubs and spring training to Mesa. He also co-founded the Mesa Historical Society and raised the money to help purchase the Park of Canals. He and his family founded Mesa's Brinton Desert Botanical Gardens, named after his father. Mr. Brinton served as president of the Mesa Jaycees and the Mesa Rotary Club. He served on many civic boards and commissions, including over 35 years on the Parks board.

Mr. Brinton was born in Victor, Idaho in 1917 and moved to Mesa in 1921. He married Pearl Randall in 1947, who preceded him in death in 1988. Their five children are Dilworth Jr., Barbara, Robert, Richard, and Ann. He married Gloria Reedy in 1991. Mr. Brinton died July 19, 1999 at the age of 81.
