Obituary
Nola Browning Thomas Vance 7/20/1933 ~ 10/11/2009

Our beloved mother passed away peacefully at her daughter's home after her long battle with cancer.

Nola was born to Clyde and Geneva Thomas of Lorenzo, Idaho. Nola attended school in Sugar City and Rexburg.

She met Neil Vance while attending Ricks College.

She wrote to her sweetheart while he served a two year LDS Mission to the Southern States.

Upon his return they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 26, 1957.

Neil and Nola enjoyed dancing and theatre.

They were regional dance instructors and enjoyed performing in church road shows.

Though an accomplished scholar, Nola's one true ambition in life was to be a mother.

Neil and Nola adopted seven children over the span of 12 years.

They also nurtured 29 foster children, one foreign exchange student, and several stranded Ricks college students.

Their love of dance and music led to their 15 year hosting of musicians attending the International Dance Festival held in Rexburg, Idaho each summer.

Her lifelong accomplishment was the publication of "Safe in a Hayfield" and her own life story.

Along with writing, her other life passions included family genealogy, family excursions, temple work, family reunions, music, and family talent shows.

She is survived by her oldest daughter Neva Baker - UT, Nina (Gordon) Esplin - UT, Nathan (LeAnn) Vance - WA, Noreen (Todd) Mortensen - UT, Norman (Kathy) Vance - PA, Nanette (Todd) Hill - ID, Nick Vance - ID, 24 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother Dee Thomas.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 17th at noon at the Stonebridge LDS Chapel, located at 475 East 7th North in Rexburg.

A viewing will be held Thursday, Oct. 15th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Garner Funeral Home 1001, 11th Ave. in Salt Lake City and from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., Sat., October 17th at the Stonebridge Ward in Rexburg, Idaho.
