Daughter of George B. Handshaw & Dorothea Catherine Norton; wife of Furman Warren Velsor [1850-1938]; they married on 26 Febuary 1887 at Northport, Suffolk County, L. I.; she was born at Smithtown Landing, Suffolk County; she never knew her father; he died during the Bermuda Hundred Campaign near Petersburg, Virginia, when she was just over a year old [1864]; she grew up at Smithtown Landing and later at Eaton's Neck and Northport; as a young woman she was a member of St. Paul's M. E. Church, Northport; she lived at Cold Spring Harbor, Suffolk County, after her marriage and later lived at Huntington, Suffolk County; after World War I she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, as she was the mother of Shelby M. C. Velsor, a veteran of the U. S. Army during the "Great War"; she raised her 3 grandchildren, Marian Deimel {Roberts}, Lorraine Deimel, & George Deimel; Marian & Lorraine are buried in the plot with their grandmother; she died at the home of her sister Sarah "Sadie" Handshaw Haff Ackerly in Northport.
